winter-dry-skin

With the chilly weather upon us, with the change of seasons, also comes the change in our skin. This season, most Canadians will suffer the winter skin blahs with symptoms such as dry, flaky and chapped skin caused by dry air and wind. Dry conditions are also caused by indoor heating, which when combined with cold air outside leaves skin’s moisture barrier compromised. This is the time your skin needs the most TLC.

Both my husband and I have naturally dry skin, even in the warmer months, so come Winter, we look for only the best products that can keep our skin moisturized.  My husband especially tends to get extremely chapped skin around his elbows and knuckles in the winter, so bad that there have been times his skin bled from how cracked and coarse they were. Is was painful to look at them! I can’t imagine how it felt.

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula has always been a household favourite.  I remember my mom using it on her skin and then when I was pregnant with my first child, I continued using it and still do up till now! Great for stretch mark prevention and skin smoothing. The cocoa scent and fast-drying formula is so great on my skin and has always kept me moisturized.  A staple skincare product in my home! Ask anyone that knows me well — they will tell you that I always have a bottle of Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Body Lotion! That delicious cocoa scent on my skin can’t be beat! The lotion retails for $6.99 for a 400ml bottle and available at Walmart, Target and Shoppers Drug Mart.

The perfect way to beat the winter dryness, comes in this great Palmers Cocoa Butter Combination: Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Moisturizing Body Oil (a few drops in the bath or on your skin following a bath), Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion (a classic favourite!) and Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Concentrated Cream.

The  Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Concentrated Cream is a thicker formula than the Lotion, containing pure, natural cocoa butter, anti-oxidants and Vitamins A,C and E to help soothe really dry skin.  This one is perfect for my husband’s sensitive, dry areas like his elbows and hands in the winter. I’ve given him this to start using continuously every day this winter and I have not seen any cracking or dryness where I usually do every winter. It’s amazing! And for what Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula is most popular for — it smoothes unattractive marks and scars and tones skin. Retails for $8.49 for a 100g tube and Available at: Walmart, Loblaws and Shopper’s Drug Mart.

What I love about the Palmers Cocoa Butter Moisturizing Body Oil is that is that it absorbs so quickly that you can even put on the most delicate fabrics immediately after application. This is a great addition to the Lotion and a must-add to your bath routine. I love dropping some inside my bubble bath for a nice comforting scent or dabbing a bit on the driest areas of my body after a bath.

  1. I like to give my feet some TLC in the winter. Also hands and elbows get it too. Winter is always so hard on the skin.
