Nestled on the shores of Algonquin Park’s Galeairy Lake, 3 1/2 hours north of Toronto and 3 hours west of Ottawa, you’ll find a special place where love is rekindled and relationships bloom.
The Couples Resort is the only all-inclusive couples only resort in Ontario offering a small intimate resort of 46 accommodations including relaxing and elegant junior suites to luxury utopian chalets — all including an in-room jacuzzi, wood-burning fireplace and a private outdoor patio including a hot tub.
We had the wonderful opportunity to spend a much-needed weekend away in this mini oasis for couples and had a pleasurable stay. Not only was it relaxing for both myself and my husband individually, but most importantly, it was very rejuvenating for us as a couple. Far too often with the kids, work and everything else in between, we tend to neglect to devote more essential time together as husband and wife. It was nice to be able to do that here where the main purpose of the resort is to ensure couples are able to really enjoy each others company and reconnect.
Once I set aside the fact that it was a bit of a drive from where we are in the GTA, the experience was certainly unique to what I’ve experienced in other hotel and resort accommodations within Ontario. Driving into the resort, I already noticed how quaint, quiet and well kept the grounds were.
We stayed in a junior suite and was pleasantly surprised and content with what was offered in our room.
The room and bed linens were clean, decor was tasteful with a few updated furniture pieces and was a nice size with each area of the room spaced out well enough from one another. It included an in-room jacuzzi, a dinette set, wood-burning stove, king bed with sofa, an LCD Television which included Netflix (bonus! Netflix and Chill?), an orderly and spotless bathroom and a private patio that offered two lounge chairs and a hot tub.
What was quite lovely was the view from the room. Whether you were inside the room (windows are well-sized and patio doors had glass windows which offered more great unobstructed views) or on the patio, you were able to see the beautiful and peaceful Galeairy Lake.

The 5 course dinner and gourmet breakfast alone is absolutely amazing. The food was delicious (I couldn’t get enough of the arugula and pear salad!), a good variety to choose from in the menu and plentiful with great portion sizing.
You can opt to enjoy private, romantic in-room dining (you order in advance from a menu selection at the dining room bar and choose your time for delivery) or dress up in your evening best and dine in their elegant and lovely dining room. The attire for evening dinner is semi-formal.
The dining room is spacious and opulent; however service is far from pretentious. The servers and wine stewards/bartenders are very friendly and courteous. The views are just spectacular with windows overlooking the lake. You can bring your own wine (no corkage fee) or choose from their comprehensive collection of superb regional and world wines.
We enjoyed the hikes around the resort (free Algonquin Park passes), discovering the museum (offering historical information about the resort and community) and Gertrud’s Art Gallery & Studio (Gertrud was in her studio when we popped in and had the chance to chat with her about her passion), bike-riding (the Couples Resort offers complimentary bike rentals as well as bike maps for four trails) and had a lot of fun playing some tennis and basketball on the outdoor courts as well as some more friendly competitive fun inside their Recreation Room while we waited for our lunch to be prepared.
They also offer a saltwater outdoor pool, 3 outdoor patio areas (including fire pit and all overlooking Galeairy Lake), spa, gym, sport centre, kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, row boats and motor boats and also horseback riding! There is just SO much to do for all seasons.
And after all that exhilarating fun together, head back to your room and enjoy some champagne and unwind in the hot tub.
The hot tub is maintained and kept clean daily and what a perfect way to end the evening.
Aside from a couple of longer wait times for a few things requested (apparently there are no walkie-talkies available for the staff hence some delay), and a bit of a hardware issue with the door of our patio which was quickly serviced (impressive!), we truly did enjoy our time at the Couples Resort.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive getaway from the hustle and bustle of the everyday with your significant other, perhaps even for a special occasion, I do highly recommend the Couples Resort. It was evident that our enjoyment, relaxation and privacy was of utmost importance to the entire staff and that was certainly reflected throughout our weekend stay. We are looking forward to staying there again and this time, we are going to try out one of their Chateaus, Chalets or Villas!
