We are a household of snackers!
Me, especially.

I have to admit that I blame a big part of that to the fact that I work from home and I get so extremely busy that I don’t always have the time to have a proper breakfast or lunch (bad, I know!) – not all the time though.
I focus more on getting things crossed of my to-do list and getting my kids fed, learning, having fun, and not turning the house upside down while I answer emails, finish newsletters and complete blog posts.

Snacking isn’t necessarily bad for you if they’re the right kind of snacks. After all, didn’t they say eating small meals throughout the day help with your metabolism?

My biggest weakness is chips. I love the crunch!
I also love tang and sweetness. I need flavour!
I have experimented with many different healthy snacks and I learned two things from my experience with healthy snacking: 1) Blah! No flavour and absolutely gross 2) These are not even truly healthy (hidden ingredients that aren’t necessarily good for you)

So I gathered a few of my favourites that have never failed me and always satisfy my snack craving.

1) Roasted Chickpeas

There are few extra dark ones here but I like the really crunchy, slightly charred taste!

I love chickpeas so when I learned of this quick and easy snack idea, I knew it would be something that would be added to my snacking faves immediately. Plus the great thing is that you can play around with the flavours according to how you want them. Make them sweet, garlicky, spicy, kid-friendly… the sky’s the limit! A great high-fiber snack!

Lisa from Running to Bake introduced me to this and here you will find a basic recipe to start with.

2) ThreeWorks Snacks & Ch!ps’ Apple Chips

I’ve had fruit and veggie chips in the past but these are by far one of my ultimate favourites. Believe me when I tell you that they are very tasty!
As seen on the Dragon’s Den, sealing a fantastic deal of course, ThreeWorks Apple Chips are a yummy snack that I’m sure you will enjoy as much as I do. Check out all the good stuff:
– Made From Fresh Sliced Apples
-Fat Free/Gluten Free
-All Natural Ingredients
-Nut and Peanut Free

My favourite flavours are Cherry Love (newest!) and Cinnamon. YUM!!! I can easily tackle 2 containers of Cinnamon Apple Chips easy. No I am not ashamed to admit it!

It has quickly become one of those items that I’m always adding to my grocery list.

And bonus: My picky 5 year old loves them too!

All ThreeWorks products are available nationwide at realtors such as Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, Rexal, No Frills, Sobeys, Safeway and more.

3) Plain Greek Yogurt with Fresh Berries and Honey or Agave Nectar

Any type of yogurt, whether Greek or regular yogurt, fruit-flavoured or plain, is good-for-you snacking! I particularly like mine plain, Greek, loaded with berries and topped with honey or agave nectar. So good! And a nice sweet treat!

4) Kale Chips

I’m sure that everywhere you go — to the gym, to your child’s ballet or ringette practice, at the office, all over social media — you have heard someone talking about Kale chips or just kale in particular. And this is for good reason.

Kale is known as being the “the queen of greens” jam-packed with tons of amazing health benefits such as powerful antioxidants, a great anti-inflammatory, high in Vitamins A, C & K, high in iron, great detox food, low in calories, high in fiber and has zero fat! Whoa! Nutritional powerhouse, indeed.

I’ve tried all the Kale chips out there, well in and around my vicinity that I can get my hands on, and my absolute favourite is hands down Solar Raw’s Ultimate Kale Chips.

They currently only come in 2 flavours, Better than Cheddar and Hemp Cream and Chive and both equally fantastic! Seriously, I am addicted to these. They have quickly replaced my salty chip craving and I feel way less guilty devouring an entire bag.

You can always just make them too. Which is what most people usually do… I guess I just much prefer to buy the Solar Raw because they taste amazing. I found a recipe online from the Kitchn blog that closely matched the Solar Raw Better Than Cheddar’s. You can find it here. If you’re looking for a good cheesy, vegan kale chip recipe, this is the one!

5) Everything on Cucumbers!

Okay well not everything but I do love cold, crunchy cucumbers and eat them all the time.
I really enjoy adding something tasty on top like tuna or chopped shrimp with minced onions, celery and mayo. Delish!

Forget the carby crackers or bread and use cucumbers instead. They are a refreshing snack and also makes for great hors d’oeuvres when entertaining because the presentation is lovely.

6) Parmesan Zucchini

Another green veggie I love snacking on is zucchini. Cut them up, coat with olive oil, sprinkle a little salt & pepper and then top with lots of parmesan. Bake in 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted and there’s a slight browning to it. Enjoy!

7) Cold Fruits

I say cold fruits because nothing taste more amazing than pure, fresh, chilly fruits (who likes their apples and grapes hot?). I cut up apple slices, kiwi, grapes, cantaloupes and put them in freezer bags either in the fridge for quick on-the-go snacks or freeze them for smoothies.
