Known and loved for fantastic wine, I think it’s safe to say that we have struck grape-gold in our lovely province of Ontario.

I am a huge fan of VQA wine and always have a good variety in my wine collection at home to serve and enjoy and also gift them to family and friends on special occasions or “just because”.

When you pick up a bottle of Ontario wine, do you know what’s in it? There are three categories of Ontario wines based on content and the Grape Growers of Ontario want you to know what’s in that bottle.

→VQA
Contents:
Made with 100% Ontario-grown grapes.
VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) is a symbol of quality and designation of origin for Ontario wines produced in three Viticultural Areas: Niagara Peninsula, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County.

The QC (Quality Certified) symbol on Fruit Wines of Ontario bottles means you are buying wine made with 100% Ontario-grown fruit. QC is modelled on the same quality standards as VQA.

→Product of Canada
Contents:
Made with a minimum of 75% Canadian-grown grapes.
May contain up to 25% imported wine.

→International and Canadian Blend (ICB)
Contents:
Ontario wineries must use a minimum of 25% Ontario grapes in an individual bottle of  ICB wine.
May contain up to 75% imported wine.

Wine Lovers Rejoice!

Lakeview Wine Co., known for their one-of-a-kind wine-tasting experience and producer of some of the most popular VQA wines in the province now offers a wine club.  I mean, what could be a more rewarding sensory taste experience than the enjoyment of wine delivered directly from their winery to your doorstep?

The Lakeview Wine Co. Wine Club is a great opportunity to try new wines and learn more about the world of wine. It also offers access to exclusive wine perks throughout the year, including member discounts on limited releases, giftware, and at several Niagara Region businesses, including hotels, golf courses and restaurants.

Especially with this chilly weather and having small children, it’s not easy to schedule a spontaneous (or even planned) trip out to NOTL to enjoy some of their amazing wine. I absolutely love this concept!

Each of their wine club collections include the following benefits:

√  Wine delivery and taxes (within major cities & towns)
√  Access to limited production and library wines
√  Wine inspired recipes
√  Invitations to winery events at special member pricing
√  25% discount on regular priced giftware items at their wine boutiques
√  Semi-annual Wine Club member events at The Winery in NOTL
√  Complimentary wine tastings in our wine boutiques
√  Complimentary access to The Cellar Floor Experience Tours at The Winery in NOTL

Memberships start at $35/month (local pick-up), $50/month (within Ontario), $55/month (outside Ontario – contact them for better rates) and include 2 Vintage bottles of either 2 reds, 2 whites, or one bottle of each.

For this month, I received:

♥ 2016 Lakeview Cellars Malbec, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Southshore Vineyards
Deep in colour with complex aromatics, this medium-bodied Malbec boosts notes of pomegranate, plum, and a hint of spice on the nose. The palate is rich with flavours of coffee, mulberry, and blackberries leading to an elegant finish. Pair this unique wine with a charcuterie board and artisanal cheeses or a savoury beef stew.

♥ Keepers White, 20 Bees
An off dry, easy-drinking white blend of Riesling and Vidal buzzing with notes of kiwi, lemon-lime zest, and soft floral notes on the nose. The palate stings your tongue with ripe peach, tangerine honey and a touch of grapefruit. Perfectly refreshing! Try this food-friendly white with a mild-medium spiced wonton soup or pad thai.

I don’t know about you, but I think I know what Santa and Mrs.Clause really want on their Christmas wish list this year!  Cheers!
