I haven’t been this excited for a collaboration in a while!
When you think of Pierre Hermé, what initially comes to mind?
Decadently delicious pastries and sweets!

What about L’Occitane?
Luxurious bath and body products, with Provençal and Mediterranean inspired fragrances and all-natural ingredients.

It only makes sense that two decadently sweet and mood-enhancing brands come together to create some magic.

A rare occasion to see a chef and beauty brand come together to create such a special collection but what also makes this partnership so unique is its foundation of friendship.

Olivier Baussan et Pierre Hermé, janvier 2015.

Pierre Hermé and Olivier Baussan have been friends for over 20 years and it was their mutual love of Corsica that inspired this collection. All of the Immortelle used in L’OCCITANE’s luxurious skin care lines is from Corsica and when Olivier brought Pierre to Corsica, he fell in love with this story and with the Immortelle flower. They both revel in the sensory world and share a love and expertise of fine, authentic ingredients. Olivier designed all the packaging for this collection while Pierre Herme was responsible for creating two powerful scents using his nose and knack for bringing unique and unexpected ingredients together.

I’m so thrilled to see this collaboration especially because I’m such a huge fan of both L’Occitane and Pierre Hermé. I discovered Pierre Hermé’s delicious treats in Paris (macarons and croissants are my favourite!).

I had the opportunity to interview L’Occitane’s Canadian Brand Ambassador, Kristina Tsiriotakis, regarding this special new collaboration:

1) What is most exciting to you about this new collaboration between Pierre Hermé and L’Occitane?

This collection is unique for L’Occitane because it brings together two artists and ambassadors of French culture. Olivier Baussan is an innovator and visionary when it comes to the commitment to natural ingredients and Provencal tradition, and Pierre Hermé is a culinary legend who has challenged our perceptions and understanding of flavor combinations. Pierre represents Paris and Olivier represents Provence, a contrast as seemingly daring as one of Pierre’s signature macarons. That said, both Pierre and Olivier care deeply about natural ingredients, sensoriality and the French landscape; the result of this common love is a collection that showcases some of the most classic ingredients of the South of France in an innovative and forward thinking way, yet the products still capture the essence of the ingredients as they exist in nature.

2) Which is your favourite scent and product from the new collection?

The Grapefruit and Rhubarb fragrance is an absolute must have for me. L’Occitane loves the power of citrus scents, which are emblematic of the Mediterranean landscape and are renowned for their uplifting and energizing properties. A splash of citrus will take your mind right off the cold winter air and into the warm Provencal sun. Pierre has explored the freshness of Grapefruit, first by elevating it with the sharpness of rhubarb and then by contrasting it with the warmth of clove and nutmeg. The result is a contrast of hot and cold, light and dark, in the most addictive and interesting way. The scent speaks to the foodie in all of us by using ingredients typically found in the pastry chef’s kitchen, but Pierre’s take is quite elegant and sophisticated. Grapefruit-Rhubarb is also unisex which makes it the perfect addition to anyone’s fragrance collection.

3) Why do you think the fusion of food and beauty can work so perfectly together?

The world of beauty is all about sensoriality and L’Occitane’s mission is to share the art de vivre with the world through the power of natural ingredients. The philosophy of the perfumer, the aromatherapist and the chef are all quite similar – they strive to stimulate the senses and utilize the power of scent for wellness and pleasure. Taste and scent are connected in the olfactory centre of the brain and awake our memories and emotions, meaning you cannot taste or smell without feeling emotion. This makes the fusion of the two worlds quite natural as they really do cross over into one another by their very essence. It is very exciting for L’Occitane to have Pierre, a true master of flavor and sensoriality, offer his take on these classic ingredients. The result is a one-of-a-kind collection of unexpected, unique and beautiful scents.

The Jasmine-Immortelle-Neroli scent with its sparkling head notes bring an unexpected sensation in this fragrance for women. In one deep breath, Lemon and Petit grain tantalize the palate as they come into contact with Pink Pepper and offer up a breeze of fresh air.

The Grapefruit-Rhubarb scent appeals to the palette and nose equally for both women and men. And, who, other than Pierre would dare to combine the flavors of Rhubarb, Clove and Nutmeg with the temperamental scent of Grapefruit?

In true L’OCCITANE fashion, both scents come in a wide range of products including perfume, body milk, lip balm, soap and of course, hand cream.

Both scents are equally seductive to the senses in their own distinct ways.

The L’OCCITANE x Pierre Hermé Collection will FINALLY be available in stores across the country and on ca.loccitane.com on October 27, 2015!
