With the start of a new school year and a swift change in routine, the beginning of September  is always a blur for me.

This September was a monumental time for our family as our youngest son headed off to full-day Kindergarten for the first time ever and in that same week, he turned 5!  So you can imagine my stress.  Scrambling to get everything sorted out before school begins for the kids plus having to think about the birthday festivities for your child INCLUDING birthday giveaways for the class (yes, I’ve always done this for my eldest), it can be a bit overwhelming.  This year in particular.  I couldn’t be more thankful to discover Netflix’s new Birthday Video’s

Netflix Introduces New Birthday Video’s On-demand

While many parents admit to feeling social-media fueled pressure to give their kids a huge party (44%), most wish they didn’t have to go Pinterest-crazy to give their kids a good time (69%).  Well, happy birthday to you, mom and dad. Today, for the first time ever, Netflix released 15 Birthdays On-Demand, where characters from LEGO Ninjago, Word Party, Luna Petunia, Beat Bugs and more help make birthday celebrations a piece of cake.

With this new hack, parents can simply press play and kids’ favorite characters will sing them a special birthday greeting – made just for them (or so they’ll think). Netflix is taking the celebrations to the next level – no cake baking all-nighter required – by letting kids celebrate with Trollhunters or Pokėmon, anytime, anywhere. Launching in the world’s most common birth month of September (just nine months after the holidays, wink wink), Netflix Birthdays On-Demand gives parents an easier way to make their kids birthdays special.

If you’ve been sweating party planning, you’re not alone. Two-thirds of parents (67%) globally agree that birthday planning is stressful. But how the celebrations unfold varies by region:

  • C’est La Vie. If only we could be more like French parents: 46% say birthday planning isn’t stressful, while parents in Peru and the Philippines feel most stressed about kids’ birthdays (77%).
  • How many likes did I get? Parents in Turkey (56%) and India (52%) feel the most social media heat around their kids’ birthday parties.
  • Characters rule. Mexican kids are all about character-themed birthdays: 91% of parents in Mexico have hosted a character-themed party for their child.
  • Trying to save a buck. Parents are more interested in saving money than time when it comes to party planning (54% vs. 42%). Italian parents are most interested in birthday money-saving measures (72%).
  • Brazilian big spenders. Brazilian parents go all out for birthdays, racking up an average bill of $620 (vs. a global average of $250).

Just searching “birthday” on Netflix will unlock a special performance from kids’ favorite characters, including DreamWorks All Hail King Julien, Barbie, Beat Bugs, DreamWorks Dinotrux, Las Leyendas, LEGO Friends, LEGO Ninjago, Luna Petunia, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug* and Cat Noir, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Pokemon, Project Mc2, Skylanders Academy, DreamWorks Trollhunters and Word Party.

There is always so much pressure on me this time of year (this birthday year in particular) but gratefully with the help of Netflix’s Birthday Video’s On-demand, some quick and easy cupcakes, balloons and of course, a special gift, I was able to officially don my invisible super-mom cape.  Can we say – #NailedIt?!

I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this was for us and especially for our birthday boy!  He loves Word Party so I was thrilled to know they offered a Word Party Birthday Video.  His reaction was priceless.  Because his birthday fell on a weekday, celebrating him on his day and making him feel super special without me having to go crazy in the process was truly a piece of cake!

Seeing his big smile while he watched some of his favourite characters sing Happy Birthday to him on the televison along with his family was truly a memorable moment.
