We are in the process of incorporating learning into every single aspect of our daily lives to make it easier for our children to comprehend and learn.
For example, if I’m re-growing old green onion stems, I will include my children in the step-by-step process and tell them that the mix of water and sun will help the old stems grow into new onions and the how.
Or if I’m reminding them not to stand in front of the microwave and they instantaneously (as always) ask “Why?”, I will explain that microwave ovens cook food using microwave radiation, which is also used by mobile phones, TV broadcasting, and radar systems and that standing in front of your microwave may increase your exposures to microwave radiation.
At the delicate and extremely inquisitive age my children are (one is six and the other is 2), there is no better time than now to start introducing the world of science to our children.
Remembering that their enthusiasm for things lasts as long as my goals of hitting the gym in full force (just keeping it real – ha!), we need to make sure we keep it intriguing.
What better way to keep your kids entertained and learning than TV? It’s the new generation and gone are the days when TV time equaled lack of learning. In fact, kids can learn SO much more now from watching the right shows and movies that will pique their interest with hidden benefits (like when you hide those veggies in their muffins or soup!).
Here are our top favourite shows to stream on Netflix Canada that will teach your littles ones more about the fun in Science (and guaranteed not to bore them!):
1. The Magic School Bus Gains Weight
2. Fetch! with Ruff
3. Animal Mechanicals, Balloon Volcano Island
4. Sid the Science Kid (This is one of my kid’s favourites!)
1. Nova: Hunting the Elements
3. Deadliest Volcanoes: Nova
4. Let Your Mind Wonder
Which shows do you plan to stream with your little scientists?
Whether it’s the science behind freshly baked cookies like this recipe for the chewiest and yummiest chocolate chip cookies ever or this easy to make DIY Baking Soda and Vinegar Volcano, there are so many fun ways to introduce a love for Science to your children.
Happy learning (and streaming)!
