Do you remember your first camping experience?
I remember scary stories by the campfires making delicious s’mores and hot dogs on sticks.
The smell of the lake and woods especially on a crisp evening watching the sunset on the dock with the beautiful oranges and yellows bouncing off the shimmering lake.
The experience of playing fun games and meeting new friends!
So many fond memories; I even remember having my very first crush at summer camp! Oh the sweet adolescent memories of summer and camp.

Summer by the lake at the cottage is a must every year for me and my family. It’s always a great way to re-connect, enjoy earth’s natural beauty and de-stress.  Some of the best and most sentimental memories were at the cottage with loved ones.

My daughter and I in 2009 at the Lakehouse.

Sadly not all children get to experience and grow memories from summer camp or even just the camping experience they so desire with family and friends.

Join me as I co-host along with host PTPA for a Twitter Party on Tuesday, June 3rd from 9-10pm EST chatting about all things ‘camp’ as we get in the spirit of Tim Hortons #CampDay – the annual fundraiser in support of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation – to help send thousands of kids to camp each year.

When is Camp Day?

Camp Day is held each year on the first Wednesday of June. This year it’s June 4, 2014!

How can I participate in the fundraiser?

On Camp Day, you can make a true difference with the purchase of your regular cup of coffee. Tim Hortons restaurant owners across Canada and the United States generously donate 100% of proceeds from coffee sales to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation (THCF) to help send thousands of kids from economically disadvantaged homes on a life-changing camp experience.

You can also directly impact children in your local community by:

  • Making a donation in restaurant with the purchase of a paper tent or cabin
  • Donating online or by text at sendakidtocamp.com or by texting the word “Camp” to 45678 (Canada) or 41518 (USA)
  • Rounding Up for Camp Day (round the after-tax total of an order to the nearest dollar amount)

You can also help spread the word about Camp Day by creating your own personalized camper and sharing it on Twitter and Facebook at timhortons.com.

How does Tim Hortons choose which kids benefit?

Children who attend one of the Foundation’s six camps are selected from within the communities where Tim Hortons restaurants are located. Tim Hortons restaurant owners work closely with local youth organizations and schools to the identify children who would benefit most from the experience. Often, this camp experience is the first time a child has travelled outside his or her community.

During their stay at a THCF camp, kids participate in a wide range of first-class programs and activities designed to build self-confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills. The powerful life experiences learned at THCF camps come at absolutely no cost to the kids and their families.

The goal of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation is to help break the cycle of poverty by giving economically disadvantaged children the skills and mindset to aspire for a brighter future

The first Tim Horton Children’s Foundation camp opened in Parry Sound, ON in 1975 with just 200 kids. Today, the Foundation operates six year-round camps across North America and by the end of 2014 will have served more than 200,000 kids.

In 2013, a record $11.8 million was raised through Camp Day to help send more than 17,000 kids to camp. Let’s help them beat this record in 2014!!!

  1. Thanks for the post. I was aware of Camp Day from reading the cups but did not know much about it before this. The money they’ve raised is quite an achievement.
