Date nights for my husband and I come few and far between.
Prior to having our little ones, date night was every night!
Now, just to solidify babysitting is a challenge all in it’s own.

When we do get the chance to finally go on that much-anticipated Date Night out of the house, we try to make sure we take full advantage!

Spent an entire weekend away at the beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake!

We try very hard to spend some time together in the evenings, but by the time my husband usually gets home from work, both of us are exhausted. I’m surprised I’m still able to make dinner! Oh yes, almost forgot my cape hanging in my closet of dusty Louboutins.

Thankfully, my husband and I have rediscovered some new found energy courtesy of incorporating Orange Naturals ND Shakes into our daily meal regimen. I can’t begin to tell you what a difference they make (they are after all loaded with nutrients and vitamins!) On top of that, healthier meal options and a more continuous workout plan have truly helped tons in bringing sexy back, er, I mean bringing that vitality back.

To make it even more great? Orange Naturals has earned the coveted Parent Tested Parent Approved (PTPA) Winner’s Seal of Approval!

Their “ND Shake Kids”, “Cough + Cold for kids”, “Digestion + Appetite for kids”, “Calm for kids”, and “Probiotic toddler to teen” now bear the seal parents trust to ensure they are bringing quality, safe, and essential products into their homes

Not trying to be biased be here, but that’s pretty amazing!

We continuously work on our physical selves, what about our relationship/marriage health?
Going back to the topic of Date Night, on top of it being a great time to relax and enjoy away from the munchkins, Date Nights are a must in keeping a lively and robust marriage.
I truly believe the key to happiness in relationships, is treating each other like BFF’s, or as my husband and I like to jokingly call it “BFF’s with Benefits”. Ha!

With smaller kids, Date Nights are easier said than done, right?
I use to think so, until my husband and I improvised on ways we can enjoy Date Night… naturally at home.

Top 10 ‘At Home’ Date Night Ideas:

1) Picnic and Movie at Home
Prep as if you’re going to an outdoor picnic – include delicious small food items that you can feed to one another (fruits, cheese and fondue are trés romantique!), sandwiches, pasta in small bowls (check out this romantic and easy pasta recipe), whatever your heart desires!
Don’t forget the wine!
Have one set up the picnic as the other puts the kids to bed (or you can both put the kids to bed and set up picnic together), and then pick a great movie to watch – netflix is a great option if you subscribe, buy a move on TV or choose one of your DVD Favourites.
How about dimming the lights too? Ooh la la!

2) Cook Together!
They say cooking together is a great way to bond and bring couples closer together.
Sushi or pizza are fun recipes to create.
Perhaps take an online cooking class together or pick out a recipe in a cookbook, buy the ingredients together, play some great music and get cookin’!

3) Watch the Sunset
I know this sounds like something out of The Notebook but trust me, it’s super sweet and relaxing (without being overly fromage).
Make some coffee/tea or whatever warm beverage you prefer, grab a nice throw and sit outside together and chat.
Hold hands, talk, cuddle, laugh, reminisce… it’s always the simple things.

4) Spa Date
Ditch the expensive spa and hassle of finding babysitting – make it a romantic night of pampering and R&R (after the kids go to bed or if you can luckily get some babysitting) with an at-home spa date.
Make a bubble bath, get the wine and glasses ready, robes and slippers, candles, light music and massage oil…

5) Play Games
Pick your favourite board games or even fun and active Wii Games (like Wii Sports – great for a fun challenge and lots of laughs) and you’ve got not only a fun date with the spouse but also a great way to work out!

6) Make It a Theme Night!
Choose a theme and centre everything you do around it. For example, if you choose an Italian theme, you could eat spaghetti and gelato, then watch a movie like The Italian Job or Life is Beautiful. Some other fun theme ideas: Mexican, Asian, Christmas, Kid’s theme, 1950′s (or any decade), etcetera.

7) Kid-Free Slumber Party
Make a cozy pallet for you and your spouse on the living room floor with lots of blankets, pillows, snacks and movies. Bring back the kid in both of you!

8) Play the Newleywed Game!
A fun and fantastic way to see how well you really know each other! Get some prizes ready for every correct answer. Here are some great questions to use: http://newlywedgamequestions.com/

9) Go for a Walk
Okay so you`re not technically in the house, but you`re not too far. Pour some warm bevvies in containers, dress warmly (for cooler weather) and go for a nice walk together around the neighbourhood.

10) Get your Singing and Dancing On
Show him your moves and that you’ve still got it!
If you have Just Dance or Wii Zumba or even just a good ol’ fashioned karaoke machine, singing and/or dancing together will surely make for a great date night idea.

How are ways you do “Date Nights” naturally at home?
Hope you find some time for a Date Night soon!

  2. My husband and I spend many an evening up on Mt Tolmie looking at the city and also down at the waterfront! Its so important to nourish your relationship in any way you can!

  4. I love the picnic and movie at home. My husband and I use to always do camping at home before we had the kids. We would sleep in the living room with our sleeping bags and pack all the stuff we usually need for a camping trip and make a weekend of it in our livingroom.

  5. I really like picnic and a movie. We had a wood stove and I always wanted to make smores in front of the fire. The stove is gone and we didn’t do it. I still regret that a bit.
#10 is great too, nothing like silly dance moves to make you laugh a lot.
